Tone Your Legs at Home

It’s always a good idea to add exercise to your daily routine. Exercising regularly can keep your heart, body, and mind healthy. Exercise can increase endorphins, which are what keep you happy. Breaking a sweat is the best way to keep your metabolism in check, and keep any excess weight off, and being overweight can lead to many other health issues down the road. Gym memberships can be pricey and we all know the main excuse as to why people don't work out - they just don't have time. Enough with the excuses! All you need is 15 minutes to spare and you can get a great workout right in your living room.

Here are 4 exercises you can do at home to tone your legs, no weights or equipment required:

  1. Lunges
Start standing up straight, then take a step forward with your leading foot, bend your knee at a 90-degree angle keeping your core tight, and making sure your knee does not extend over your foot.  Reverse this move; as you come out of the lunge into a normal stance, make sure to press off using your heel. Lunges work all parts of your legs, glutes, and core.
  2. Squats
Place your feet about shoulder-width apart. While keeping your back straight and upright, and shoulder back, bend your knees and squat down keeping your hips back. Stand back up and repeat this move. Squats work your glutes, quads, and hamstrings and they are a great workout for not only your legs but back and core as well.
  3. Leg Lifts
On the ground, lay on your side while propping yourself up slightly using your forearm. Lift your top leg creating a triangle, and bring it back down. Repeat this move and switch sides. You can use different variations on how high you lift your leg, bringing it all the way up to a 90-degree angle and back down, or keeping the angle acute.
  4. Calf Raises
You can do this move on flat ground or stairs. Move back and forth from pushing yourself up on your toes and then back down onto your heels. Hold yourself up on your toes for long periods to create a tougher workout. This move works and tones your calves and hamstrings as well.
